Seth Rogen has an ambitious career. A solid member of the Hollywood in-crowd, he has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in a variety of movies, all while maintaining composure. At least what’s left of the composure when his hilariously offbeat remarks make everybody crack up. Here’s a list of what makes him one of the most underrated and iconic stars of the 21st century.
The Green Hornet (2011)

Seth Rogen teamed up with a venerable cast including Christoph Waltz, James Franco, and Cameron Diaz for this irreverent superhero flick. Taking inspiration from adventure comedies of the past, the film celebrates a Rogen-centric tradition of not holding back on the production. The film takes the audience through great lengths of plot twists and ironic humor to tell a classic superhero story through a delightfully distorted vision that still serves its purpose.
There are all kinds of facets of classic superhero movies explored through the film. Down to the camera angles and lighting techniques. It’s embedded in the lines that Rogen acts out and the moves that he makes. There’s nothing left untouched.
Rogen’s acting in the film takes into consideration the tradition of superheroes in film. Their flaws, their triumphs, their struggles. He knows how to approach his character, and does it with the demeanor and focus that keeps everything held together.
Neighbors 2 (2016)

Neighbors 2 is a lot of things. At the same time that it follows in the footsteps of the first Neighbors film, it’s a step in a new direction at the same time. It really signaled a new direction for Seth Rogen too. The film plants its influence with the promotion of the boyishly cool fraternity cats that it loves to exploit, and the ironic antics that delve deeper into the psychology of the cast.
When everyone in the film gets together, there is a great chemistry between the ironic teamwork of Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. The rivalry and mystery unravels thickly, and loops together into a bold statement about suburban life.
It’s really a college flick. The topics covered, the characters involved, and the acts played out all have a direct relationship with the college system. It serves its purpose to entertain through an off-kilter and earnest attitude towards conceptualizing the contrasting worlds that independent people have in America.
Knocked Up (2007) R
Tons of people saw this movie when it first came out. It was like the big thing in that era. Everyone was booking it to the theater to go see the new Seth Rogen film. People were obsessed with him.
This raunchy rom-com had about a million jokes about sex that keep the comedy grounds running red. It’s dirty, and that’s an environment in which Seth Rogen feels free to express himself in a cool, collected way.
He commands the scenes with his facilities. Somehow taking on everyone and their sister with his comedic range. It’s a big string of events along the road that other raunchy sex comedies have taken, but driving along an innovative direction that Seth Rogen is known for.
The Night After (2015) R
Success is only a few feet away, but it feels so far. No matter who Seth Rogen runs into in this film about a drug-fueled Christmastime, he runs into conflict. It’s a raucous and inspiring collage of late-night pictures and hilarious lines.
The film maintains relevance to the modern era. Featuring businessmen on a mission, the whole thing has a lot to say about life the way we know it, and the way that people try to blow it off. The extravagances of this world take the rails off of the tracks, and Rogen is there to bring it back together.
Seth Rogen is an ironic hero. He takes things too far, but brings them right back home. His approach to comedy is innovative and creative, and he moves with the motion of the world. He hasn’t been outdated or lost to time, but remains a cult phenomenon.
